Granada sack coach Paco Jemez after nightmare start to the season

He only took over in the summer but no wins in six games has seen him dismissed already

It was an open secret and on Wednesday it’s been confirmed: Granada have officially sacked coach Paco Jemez following a nightmare start to the new season.

The defeat against Alaves was the straw which broke the camel’s back. The club ran out of patience and decided it was time to act, breaking off their relationship with the man they had only appointed in the summer.

Granada are now combing the market in search of a replacement for Jemez, who left Rayo Vallecano at the end of last season, and have reportedly been doing so since early on Tuesday.

With the loss to Alaves, their fourth in six league games, Granada sit in the bottom three with just two points from 18. It’s a figure which sees them equal their worst ever start in the top flight, which was in 1941-42.

The only sides they’ve taken points from are Villarreal (1-1) and Real Betis (2-2), while they were beaten by Las Palmas (5-1), Eibar (1-2), Athletic Bilbao (1-2) and Alaves (3-1).

Osasuna have made an equally bad start and share bottom spot with Granada on two points as both sides wait for their first win of the new campaign.

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper is on loan at the club and will remain their until the end of the season. Luis Enrique said Jemez's style of football was one of the reasons Samper moved to Granada.
