He says on February 1 he will be at Atletico Madrid

Diego Costa will return to action in the new year

After his return to Atletico Madrid in January 2015, Fernando Torres' future has been a persistent topic. His contract expires in the summer and with the return of Diego Costa, there are fresh doubts. But El Nino has faith in himself and is convinced he will not be cast aside after the winter window. In an interview with AS, Torres says that "On February 1, I will be at Atletico and I hope to be there many more years. I have a year on my contract and I hope that it will be more. That's my objective and my motivation."

At 33, the Atletico striker is not looking too far ahead though. "My future is next Saturday. I know that each game I play could be my last at Atletico, or not. But this is how I feel it. I play as if it could be my last. Nobody's ever given anything to me. I'm here on my own merits and my performances."

On Diego Costa's return, Torres added: "Gameiro came and I started as a substitute, but by the end I was playing a lot of games. Now Diego Costa is coming and it will be hard for me to play, but I'll work to be a starter as I've always done. I will fight to play, I will not throw in the towel."
