Atletico Madrid covered 116,515 kilometres against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, almost 8.5 more than the German side, who ran 108.043, according to UEFA’s official statistics. They had 16 shots to Bayern’s 13 in their 1-0 win.

Eight of those were off-target, six in Bayern’s case, three blocked, the same as the Germans, and five were on target, while Bayern had four. Two of their shots also hit the woodwork.

Atletico had more chances with less possession, just 37 per cent against the 63 per cent of the visitors, trying 332 passes to 679.

In the end it was Yannick Carrasco’s goal that made the difference, drilled home brilliantly from the edge of the box.
