Atletico Madrid president Cerezo insults Sergio Aguero

The Man City striker didn't leave the Rojiblanco on the best of terms in 2011

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has criticised Sergio Aguero for the way he left the La Liga club.

"Aguero is one of the best players in the world, but he left in a bad way," Cerezo said on Cadena Cope.

"He's been the only player who left Atletico under a cloud, as he was stupid. He arrived as a hero but he left through the back door."

Cerezo was being asked if Atletico could re-sign Aguero with his Manchester City future in doubt.

The club say they want to keep him and he says he wants to stay, but comments after being left on the bench on Sunday made for interesting interpretation.

"I have three months [until the end of the season] to do my best and try to help the team and we’ll see what happens with my future," he said.

“I have to help the team as much as I can in these three months, afterwards we’ll see what the club wants to do with me.”

Aguero joined Atletico Madrid in 2006 from Independiente before joining City in 2011. When he left, he controversially stated his desire to leave the club on his website.

Latter, in an interview with City's website, Aguero said that the club had promised to facilitate an exit: "Unfortunately that did not happen and [Atletico] complicated things."
