Atletico Madrid keen on signing Real Betis midfielder Dani Ceballos

Diego Simeone's side are looking at potential signings despite FIFA's transfer ban

Atletico Madrid want to sign Dani Ceballos, despite FIFA’s transfer ban, and are studying ways to sign the Real Betis midfielder.

Linked with Real Madrid, the youngster renewed with Betis until 2020. Atletico did open talks with the Seville-based club, but they pointed to his 12 million euro release clause and the player didn’t force an exit.

The insistence of Gustavo Poyet, who took over in the summer, provoked the club to hang onto the player who came through the academy after being released by Sevilla.

However, his lack of appearances this season, starting just one game, could change his situation, especially with Atletico’s interest.

Despite the transfer ban, pending an appeal, Atletico are hopeful of things changing next summer (2017). They don’t want any conflict with FIFA and have agreed to wait for the CAS’ decision.

That said, they could still follow Barcelona’s example in the event of a negative outcome. The Catalan side signed Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan but neither could play for six months.

It would be the same for Atletico if they signed Ceballos next summer. He wouldn’t be able to play until January 2018.
