Atletico Madrid continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at San Mames against Athletic Club.
Angel Correa and Yannic Ferreira-Carrasco scored the goals for Diego Simeone’s side, with Raul Garcia scoring a late consolation for the hosts.
Athletic should have gone in at half time in the lead, but veteran striker Aritz Aduriz saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Jan Oblak.
The Basque side were made to regret that missed penalty just before the hour when Correa, finally being given a run of games, opened the scoring.
Substitute Carrasco then doubled the visitor’s lead inside the final 20 minutes.
Garcia scored in stoppage time against his former side but it was too little, too late for Athletic.
Atletico have 11 points from their five games (three wins, two draws) and trail leaders Barcelona by five points at the top of the table.
Athletic, meanwhile, have just seven points and have suffered back-to-back defeats having gone through their first three matches without losing.
