French forward Antoine Griezmann became Atletico Madrid’s improvised spokesman on Thursday night with a message to the club’s fans after the Court of Arbitration rejected their appeal against their transfer ban, denying them the chance to sign players this summer.
“Now more than ever #Atleti #EveryoneTogether,” Griezmann published on his official Twitter account, a message which is open to many interpretations. The principle, and most important one, is that it’s a sign of his continued commitment to Diego Simeone’s team.
During recent weeks the chance of the striker moving to Manchester United has gathered pace. However, as reported by COPE on Thursday, Griezmann has contacted the Premier League club to communicate that he cannot leave Atletico in such a tight spot after the CAS’ decision.
Griezmann’s decision, if proven true, is a blow to Jose Mourinho’s transfer plans at United. The Portuguese coach will now have to move on to Plan B. In recent days Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid) and Kylian Mbappe (Mónaco) have been linked as alternatives, while Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) is another reported option.
