Alaves 1-1 Sevilla: Sergio Rico errs but then saves the day

Sevilla are third with four points less than leaders Barcelona and three down from Real Madrid

Sergio Rico had a topsy-turvy night in Sevilla's goal as they dropped two points against Alaves that might cost them in the La Liga title race.

With 15 minutes to go the goalkeeper spilled a cross from Oscar Romero which Aleksandar Katai scrambled home to equalise after Wissam Ben Yedder's opener in the 23rd minute.

But Rico quickly made up for his error as he produced a special save to deny Katai from a free-kick and then Deyverson as he pulled the trigger in front of goal after escaping his marker.

Sevilla are third with four points less than leaders Barcelona and three down from Real Madrid, who have played a game less.

Sampaoli said: "We have respect for our opponents today and they did what they had to do to try and win, in a stadium that is very difficult to play in.

"In the second half we went out to play to win from the first minute. They played too and made small changes and they had the ability to make things difficult for us."
