Abelardo resigns as coach of Sporting Gijon, Rubi set to replace him

Abelardo Fernandez has resigned of coach of Sporting Gijon. The Asturian coach presented his resignation to president Javier Fernandez, with the game against Eibar at the weekend the club's fourth consecutive defeat and their seventh in eight games.

The club will appoint Joan Francesc Ferrer ('Rubi') as his replacement at El Molinon. Luis Garcia Plaza and Pepe Mel were also candidates for the job.
