Ronaldo's message ahead of the Euro 2016 final

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to play his second European Championship final on Sunday but has warned that France are favourites to win the tournament on home soil.

The 31-year-old was in the Portugal squad that reached the Euro 2004 final in Lisbon, losing 1-0 on that occasion to underdogs Greece at the Estadio da Luz.

"[Winning the European Championship] is something I've always dreamed of," he began, "It would be a great achievement to win something with Portugal.

"My fingers are crossed because myself, my team-mates, and the whole of Portugal believe we can win [the final]. This is a unique feeling of joy because it's what I wanted to achieve again, to be in the final.

"The last time was in 2004 and now I will have the opportunity to play a second final with Portugal, it's a game where anything can happen.

"We know that we're facing a great team and the whole of France will be supporting them. We'll be ready and it won't be easy to beat us."

Ronaldo has already broken several records at Euro 2016, equalling Michel Platini's record of nine goals in the competition's history in the process and becoming the first player to score in four consecutive editions of the tournament.

"These things end up happening," the Real Madrid forward concluded, "I don't want to obsess too much with [personal] records.

"I feel good, young and strong, so what worries me now is to continue with this success. We have to be positive on Sunday and it will be the first time that Portugal has won a major trophy."
