Michel Platini starts to receive support for his bid to become FIFA president

UEFA president Michel Platini has received backing from the presidents of the federations of Chile, Uruguay and Mexico, as well as the vice-president of Caribbean football, as he tries to take the FIFA presidency.

"Platini should be the next president of FIFA. Chile will support Platini in the coming elections and I hope that CONMEBOL vote as a block for him, if he puts himself forward," said Sergio Jadue, president of the Chilean football federation, to La Tercera.

In his opinion, "Platini is the ideal person to restore the credibility to FIFA that is needed at the moment. He, with his work for UEFA, has demonstrated that he has sufficient ability in order to organise FIFA excellently."

Wilmar Valdez, president of the Uruguayan federation, has highlighted Platini's "experience as a leader," as he was re-elected as the president of UEFA last March for his third term.

"There is a certain common feeling in CONMEBOL towards Michel Platini, he is a man who has already shown he is a leader with vast experience. CONMEBOL is going to vote together, this is clear," Valdez told El Pais.

Mexican federation president Justino Compean has indicated to Eurosport that CONCACAF will give its votes to Michel Platini, in place of Sepp Blatter, as has the vice president of Caribbean football Cheney Joseph.

According to Granadasports, "due to the foundation of leading one of the most important confederations in the world, Platini has the qualities required to leader a new generation of FIFA."

Michel announced on the 29th of July his candidacy for the FIFA presidency, which will be held in Zurich on the 26th of February 2016.

The former France international, who has been president of UEFA since 2007, hopes to replace Sepp Blatter, who resigned from his position merely four days after being re-elected in May, due to corruption scandals and related arrests.
