Jose Mourinho praises Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola

Jose Mourinho has discussed the upcoming season and cited - in this order - Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal as his main rivals in the Premier League.

The former Real Madrid coach paid tribute to Guardiola as the pair face their debut seasons on the red and blue half of Manchester respectively.

"Manchester City already had a fantastic squad and is investing heavily and has a high quality coach [in Guardiola]," the 53-year-old said in an interview with Portuguese magazine 'Expresso'.

Mourinho also noted the successes of his native Portugal at Euro 2016 under Fernando Santos' management, and highlighted the importance of fitting Cristiano Ronaldo into a defensive set-up.

"[Santos] decided that Portugal would play virtually with two lines of four [players], and Ronaldo in a more central position in order to preserve the defensive solidity - which [Ronaldo] doesn't like."

The Manchester United coach also claimed that Portugal defeated France in the European Championship final because "they defended well" and based their gameplan on the assumption that if they didn't concede a goal then they would be the tournament winners.
