The former England star is looking to move into coaching

Catalan coach Pep Clotet was sacked by Oxford this week

Frank Lampard has been linked with the Oxford United job after Catalan coach Pep Clotet was fired by the English club earlier this week.

Former England international Lampard has spoken with the owners at Oxford, who play in the third tier of English football, about the possibility of taking over.

Oxford got rid of Clotet after a run of just four wins in 13 games, which has seen them drift away from the playoffs. He had been a marked man since the 7-0 loss to Wigan before Christmas, but the final straw was the loss to Bury at the weekend.

Lampard, who played for West Ham, Swansea, Chelsea, Manchester City and New York City, is currently working as an analyst for the television network Sky Sport in the United Kingdom.

But the ex-midfielder is looking to move into coaching and would be happy to start in the lower leagues and attempt to work his way up.

Last summer he was linked with the Oxford job before the club finally went for Clotet, who had previously worked as Garry Monk's No.2 at both Swansea and Leeds.
