Roberto Mancini already looking to replace Martin Montoya

Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, who joined Inter Milan on loan earlier this summer, is struggling to impress his new manager, Roberto Mancini.

He joined the Italian club hoping to be their first choice right-back, but reality is proving slightly different. He is not heavily involved in Mancini’s plans, with the Inter boss asking the club to look for a new right-back.

In information published by ‘calciomercato.com’, it’s explained that Mancini’s plan was for Montoya to be his right-back. However, in the last friendly against AEK Athens, D’Ambrosio was preferred. It’s also pointed out that Montoya has also played with the B team in a match against Sassuolo.

Mancini’s mind could already be made up, the report continues. He would like to bring in Jacopo Sala from Hellas Verona, a player who formerly played for Chelsea in England.

And even if a signing can’t be made, the Inter coach may prefer to play Danilo D’Ambrosio (26), Davide Santon (24) or even Yuto Nagatomo (28), although he could leave the club soon. That is if Montoya can’t change his manager’s mind soon.

Montoya joined Inter on July 3 on a one-year loan for 1.5 million euros. Both clubs agreed, though, that if he plays a certain number of games, the loan will carry into a second season. At the end of that second season, Inter would have the option to sign him for six million euros.
