Madness in Seville and from Monchi, for Jorge Sampaoli

Jorge Sampaoli is becoming the figurehead for the grand success of Sevilla. The coach is admired and loved thanks to his excellent play and the fine results his team are achieving. Sevilla are the new joint leaders of the top flight.

In images published by the club’s Twitter account, the joy with which fans greeted the coach when he arrived back at their hotel after beating Real Betis in the derby was evident. 

Sampaoli indicated in the press conference after the game that in the break his team had to act, 1-0 down. 

“If it went they way of the first half it was impossible to come back. In the second half we looked for the draw and later the victory. The happiness of being able to win today and that we are first in the table makes me very happy. Betis in the first half was one of the teams who hurt us most. We have to think that what we did in the second half is what helps us get on top. If we carried on like in the first half we had zero possibilities of dreaming. 

“What did I say to the players? i told them that Betis could have scored more against us. And that it was lucky we did not let in more. Iborra came on and did well. He was one of the reasons that the second half was different.”

Sampaoli was not only praised by the players, but also by sporting director Monchi. “This one in the photo is very great!” he wrote, along with a selfie of himself with Jorge Sampaoli.
