Luis Enrique, Rafa Benitez and hatred of the media

The majority of football coaches - and many players - hate the media. They consider the press responsible for their ills, and never accept their criticisms. Not even the constructive ones. And many of them (like Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique) entrench themselves in press conferences and never accept personal interview requests. To the enemy, they think, you must not even give water.

When things go well - that's to say, their teams win - they feel strong. And sometimes they can even seem nice. But when things go wrong - their teams lose - they let loose the monster inside. This happened with Luis Enrique on more than one occasion last season. ANd on Tuesday it was Rafa Benitez who exploded against the media. The excuse is always the same - the press lie and manipulate.

The Real Madrid coach hit out at journalists, claiming they were part of a campaign against him. And against Florentino Perez. ANd the while club in general. Rafa Benitez lost his nerve, and accused the media of dark arts.

What Rafa should have done is reflect and not bask in conspiracy theories, like his president. To reflect and think if it's the fault of the press they failed so ridiculously to sign De Gea, they lost 4-0 to Barcelona at home, Benzema has been in the courts, they were disqualified from the Copa del Rey. The problem is that this Madrid don't need campaigns against them. They do it to themselves...
