Dani Alves is called up to play for Brazil in the Copa America at the last minute by Dunga

Dani Alves has cut his holiday short before he has had chance to enjoy it. After Danilo was definitively ruled out of the Copa America due to injury, Alves has been chosen by Dunga to replace him, as confirmed by the Brazilian Football Confederation.

Danilo, who will play for Real Madrid next season, suffered an injury to his right ankle during a friendly against Mexico and is unable to join up with the national team as a result.

Danilo will travel to Minas Gerais and then to Madrid, where he will continue his treatment at his new club, according to a statement emitted by the Brazilian Football Federation after Brazil's 1-0 friendly win over Honduras, which is the last Dunga's men will play before the Copa America.

Due to first-choice right-back Danilo being ruled out, Dani Alves will return to the Brazilian national team for the first time since the 2014 World Cup, when Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany during the semifinals.

Brazil will play their first game of Copa America on the 14th June against Peru, and will also face Colombia and Venezuela in Group C.
