Barça's Gerard Pique: If we recover our style we are unstoppable

The defender says there is still a long way to go in the season despite Madrid's six point lead

Gerard Pique, one of the references in the Barcelona dressing room, sent an optimistic message after his side’s 1-1 draw against Real Madrid, although he was also very clear: the team must get back to their best to be in with a chance of winning any titles.

Pique was one of the players who spoke to the media after the Clasico. He could hardly not recognise Madrid’s unbeaten run extending to 33 games, but he will not be giving up.

“Everything is going right for Real Madrid and the goal in the 90th minute keeps their unbeaten run going, but experience tells me that this [the season] is very long,” the Barça defender advised.

And Pique used an example: “The first year of Luis Enrique, in 2014/15, we were in a similar situation. They were on a great run of form and had a four point lead.”

The key, for Pique, is clear: “It all depends on ourselves and how we play football. If we recover our style, which we in part recovered today, we’re unstoppable and we can turn things around.”

INIESTA’S RETURN

Despite drawing the game, Pique said: “We’re on a good path, we’ve competed for the whole game and you have to be calm because there’s a long way to go. I’ve seen worse situations.”

In this sense, he also highlighted the important of Andres Iniesta: “We recover our way of playing, he gives us more pausa and more control to create chances and you noticed when he played.”

On the equaliser, he said: “No [we don’t have problems defending dead balls]. Our goal also came from a similar play.

“For our way of understanding football we have played who aren’t that tall and we have to be closer together and dig in so that they don’t score.”
