The main aim is to consolidate Girona's status as a La Liga side

Girona now officially have new owners. On Wednesday afternoong, the club announced that the French company TVSE Fútbol have sold their part of the club to City Football Group and Pere Guardiola, who has bought his half under the game Girona Football Group. The club is divided in equal parties between the two groups, who will each own 44.3 per cent of the club's shares.

Finally, negotiations which began in 2016 have come to an end following the club's promotion to the top flight of Spanish football. With the agreement in place, there was just one final step: for the takeover to be approved by the Superior Council of Sports. That took place on Wednesday, so everything is now official.

Girona said in a statement they are delighted to be able to “benefit from City Football Group’s extensive networks in infrastructure, coaching, recruitment, youth development and executive leadership in addition to its global media, marketing and commercial capabilities”.

Pere Guardiola added: “Together, we are confident that we will give the club the backing it seeks, whether the support comes in the form of executive, financial or leadership help.”
