The warning of Napoli's president to Gonzalo Higuain

With the player having passed his medical, and agreed personal terms with the Turin club, the only step left for the completion of Gonzalo Higuain's transfer from Napoli, is for Juventus to transmit their intention to pay the Argentine's release clause to the Neapolitan outfit.

That figure stands at 94.7 million euros.

The Napoli president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, again insisted that the only way to prise Higuain away from his club is through the buy-out option.

Conscious of the fact that this may well occur, he sent a clear message to the striker:

"I have not spoken with Higuain these past days, but if he goes to Juventus, he would be betraying himself.

"One doesn't approach one of the ends of the San Paolo stadium, where the team's colours are represented, to sing the 'Song of the Lover' (a popular club anthem) and later goes to their historical rivals.

"It would be a paradox because Juventus and Napoli are like a dog and a cat."

He also admitted to having rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid for the player.

"The only proposal I received was from the Atletico Madrid president a month ago and I told him the transfer was not possible.

"He offered me 60 million euros plus two or three players and i told him 'no'."

Asked whether he would re-sign Edinson Cavani should Higuain leave the club, De Laurentiis stated:

"He has already said that he does not get on with me.

"I don't know why, perhaps because I sold him too well and people expected more from him."

Napoli sold the Uruguayan to PSG for 67 million euros in 2013.
