Mehdi Benatia signs for Juventus on one-year loan

Italian champions Juventus have signed Moroccan international defender Mehdi Benatia on a one-season loan from Bayern Munich.

In a statement released on their official website, the Turin club confirmed:

"Juventus announces that they have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the temporary acquisition, until June 30, 2017, of the footballer Mehdi Benatia for three million euros.

The contract also provides the opportunity for Juventus to exercise the option to buy the player permanently, before May 30, 2017, for 17 million euros."

The 29-year-old Benatia returns to Serie A, after two seasons in the Bundesliga with Bayern.

He had previously represented Udinese and Roma in the Italian league.

The centre-back arrived in Turin on Thursday morning to undergo medical checks, and signed his new contract on Friday.

He becomes the third signing of the summer for 'The Old Lady', following the captures of Miralem Pjanic from Roma, and Dani Alves from Barcelona.
