The former Spain and Real Madrid coach has been linked with the post in Italy

A few months after being sacked by Real Madrid, Julen Lopetegui could have another job at another European capital on the horizon. The Baque coach is among the candidates to take over at Roma, if the Serie A side finally decide to sack under pressure coach Eusebio di Francesco.

According to a report in Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Lopetegui is one of the favourites for the job at Roma, who will meet Porto in the next round of the Champions League. Other names on the table include Paulo Sousa, Leonardo Jardim and Laurent Blanc, among others.

Citing Italian media, O Jogo say that Sousa is also among the favourites because of his knowledge of the Italian game and the job he did at Fiorentina in the past. However, the say that Lopetegui, sacked by Florentino Perez after just a few months at Madrid, is also right in the running.

Roma are sixth in the table, 22 points back from leaders Juventus. It remains to be seen if Di Francesco will make it to the last 16 game against Porto in February. If he doesn't, Lopetegui could find himself back in work sooner than later.
