Juve's Marotta "cannot confirm or deny" Alves and Mascherano deals

While confusion surrounds Dani Alves’ signing for Juventus, who could possibly be joined at the Serie A champions by Javier Mascherano, the Italian club's general director Giuseppe Marotta has had his say on the two stories.

After visiting the ‘Football Leader’ event, Marotta spoke to the media. “I don’t speak about players who are not ours, but at the moment we are scouring the market. The arrival of Mascherano? It’s just speculation in the press, but we have no intention of selling any of our defenders. I’ll limit what I say to, as of today, there is nothing,” he said.

The Italian continued his attempts to keep quiet and give nothing away. “We have not initiated talks, not with Alves nor with Mascherano, I can’t talk about news which I’ve only just found out,” he declared, aware that the best thing for now is to keep things quiet. “I cannot confirm or deny,” he added, making it clear it would be impossible to get any information from him.

However, on the Brazilian full-back, he did hint that Juve are keen on signing him. “He is a fantastic player, we will see what we can do…” he admitted.

Asked about other transfer targets, such as Domenico Berardi, Andres Gomes and Pjanic, Marotta followed the same tactics, except for when it came to talking about the Sassuolo forward, who he appeared optimistic about signing.

It should be remembered that since the news emerged about Alves and Mascherano, neither of the players, nor Barça, nor Juve have made an announcement about the situation. Marotta’s words are the first which have been said since Wednesday’s transfer market ‘bombs’.
