Juventus 2-1 Real Madrid: Alvaro Morata makes his old side pay in Turin

Alvaro Morata struck against his former side as Juventus beat Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg. Carlos Tevez put The Old Lady ahead again, after Cristiano Ronaldo's header had put Madrid level.

Juventus started the game flying. A couple of early surges were just about dealt with by Madrid, and Alvaro Morata tested Iker Casillas with a lob.

Carlo Ancelotti's team were living on the edge and it soon proved fatal. Carlos Tevez received the ball in the box and drilled a low strike towards Iker Casillas' far post. The goalkeeper got a hand to it but the rebound fell for Morata and he tapped home.

To Madrid's credit, they fought back quickly. Not just in terms of finding the equaliser, but also in the amount of the ball they had and what they did with it.

An excellent move ended with James Rodriguez lofting the ball across to Cristiano at the back-post, and he nodded Madrid level. It took him to 76 Champions League goals, more than any other player in history - at least until Lionel Messi, on 75, plays on Wednesday.

Between the goal and the half-time break, Real were on top, but Juventus steadied after that, and soon went on top again.

Carlos Tevez broke away, with Morata in support, and although the latter was taken out off-the-ball by Marcelo, the former continued to surge forward, into the box.

Dani Carvajal was chasing and eventually caught up with Tevez, only to take him out and leave his side facing a penalty. The Argentine stood up and slammed it down the middle, sending the Italians ahead.

That's the way it stayed, despite a couple of hairy moments for both sides, with Casillas making a save at the back post right at the death, when Fernando Llorente's header from Pirlo's free kick threatened to make it three.

The second leg, at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday next week, is intriguingly poised.
