Francesco Totti takes a swipe at Gonzalo Higuain

The AS Roma captain Francesco Totti has not bitten his tongue when asked for his opinion on Gonzalo Higuain's move to Italian champions Juventus.

In comments made to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', he was clearly opposed to what is the biggest deal of the summer so far:

"These days footballers are a little like nomads. They follow the money and not their heart.

"Maybe that is the difference between them and me."

Totti is an idol at the Stadio Olimpico having spent his whole career at the Roman club.

He explained the reasons for his decision to remain at the club for so long:

"There are not many players who follow their heart. Had I thought of the money, I would have left Roma ten years ago.

"For me, the most important things is passion, not money.

"I always loved these colours and always wanted to wear this shirt."

The Italian took the opportunity to criticise the mentality of modern football, and the influx of sub-standard imports into the Italian game:

"Not all foreign players are like Maradona.

"I dream with a championship in which there are only two per team.

"Now, in mine, there is not enough Italian spoken, even the masseuses use English."

He then turned his focus back on the Argentine Higuain:

"The fans go to the stadium to enjoy themselves and to see players that are loyal to their team, hoping to not be betrayed.

"The fact that Higuain has swapped Napoli for Juventus is a disaster."
