English clubs target Mauro Icardi, who Barça sold nearly four years ago

Mauro Icardi abandoned Barcelona almost four years ago in search of opportunities at first team level. And his bet has worked out quite well. Today, he is one of Inter's best players and his value continues to grow.

According to the English press on Wednesday, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are all interested in signing him. Inter would be looking for a fee in the region of €35million - an amount far higher than the €350,000 Sampdoria paid Barça for the striker in 2011.

At 21, Icardi is already a highly rated forward in Serie A. In his second season with 'Samp', he scored 10 goals in 31 matches.

His numbers cannot be overlooked at Inter, either, who he joined in the summer of 2013 for €13million. In his first season with the 'Neoazurro' he scored nine goals in 25 appearances; he's already managed seven in nine this season, plus four more in the Europa League.

Born in Rosario, like Lionel Messi, Icardi hasn't closed the doors on a possible return to Barça one day. "You never know what will happen in the future," he's previously said when asked if he would one day try his luck in Catlonia again.

And, even though he left Barça as a teenager, he's maintained that the decision to leave was not his. Regardless of that, his market value today is 100 times more than what the Blaugrana got for him four years ago
