Guardiola: I've given my life for Bayern from the first minute to the last

Pep Guardiola says he’s been happy with his time in Germany despite crashing out of the Champions League in the semi-final for the third season running.

In his first season in charge of Bayern Munich, he was beaten by Real Madrid, while Barcelona proved too good for the Bavarians last season.

And on Tuesday night Diego Simeone”s side knocked them out in the last four via away goals.

“I was very happy here,” he said after being eliminated to Atletico, “but of course it was my aim to win the Champions League.

“At Barcelona we did that and in Bayern we tried to do that but it wasn’t to be. We tried our best.

“In the end I’m absolutely happy with everything that’s happened here in Munich. You have to accept it for what it is. I’ve done my best.

“I’ve given my life for this club from the first minute to the last.

“We played well, maybe not so well at times and people can say what they want, but I’m very proud of everything and it was an honour to coach these players.”

The Catalan coach, who will take over at Manchester City in the summer, now hopes that incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti can continue the club’s domestic success.

“I hope that Carlo Ancelotti can keep the same level up next season. He can do this.

“But the most important thing is that this club has a bright future with great people.

“I’ve helped the players here, we’ve played as well as we could and I’m very satisfied with the performances that we’ve given - although maybe it wasn’t enough.

“I’m sure that the future of Bayern is bright with these players.”
