Kimmich is out of contract in 2020 and on a 'low' wage

Talks have already taken place regarding an extension

At 22, Joshua Kimmich is one of Bayern Munich's most important players. This season, save two games, he's played nearly every game and helped the club move on from Philipp Lahm.

For that reason, the Bundesliga champions, according to Sport BILD, are desperate to tie him down to a new contract amid interest from Manchester City and FC Barcelona.

Kimmich, who joined Bayern in 2015 from RB Leipzig for 9 million euros, is out of contract in 2020 and 'only' gets paid 3 million euros per season.

The club's intention is to renew him until 2023 and give him a significant wage rise.

"In the summer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge came to us for the first time to ask if we thought an extension would be possible," Uli Ferber, the player's agent, told BILD.

In addition, Ferber added that "this autumn we have sat down to talk and at the end of the year we will have another meeting."

In May, Kimmich himself said: "I want to be at Bayern for a long time, under the premise of playing. I want to be important for the club and the team. I want to be a key player here."
