Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng says Barça did bid for him

Bayern Munich and Germany defender Jermoe Boateng has revealed that Barcelona tried to sign him last summer.

The 26-year-old told Sport Bild: "I don't know exactly when Barça's offer was put in, but it is true that there was an offer."

The Blaugrana were in the maket for central defenders before the season began, although Boateng can also play as a full-back. As alternatives, the club eventually signed Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal), Douglas (Sao Paulo) and Jeremy Mathieu (Valencia).

Boateng, who previously played for Hertha Berlin, Hamburg and Manchester City, is one of the few people to turn a move to Barça down.

"I wasn't thinking about leaving. I don't need to leave Bayern for Barça if I want to win the Champions League," he explained.

However, he did admit he was flattered, adding: "When a club like Barcelona shows interest in signing you then it is a great honour, of course."

He's happy in Germany, though, and former Barça boss Josep Guaridola is one of the main reasons why.

"He's the coach who has taught me the most about tactics. With him I play more with my head than ever before," Boateng stated.

The German international would fetch about €40million in the current market, although it is unknown how much Barça offered the Bundesliga champions.

But Boateng says he will stay at Bayern as long as the want him to.

"They are one of the four best clubs in the world and I would like to end my career here after winning many titles," he concluded.
