Aubameyang dedicates goal against Madrid to late grandfather

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dedicated the goal he scored against Real Madrid to his late grandfather after the game.

Aubameyang scored in the 43rd minute when he ensured the ball crossed the line after Keylor Navas’ punch bounced off Raphael Varane and towards the goalkeeper’s own net.

He spoke afterwards, saying: “It’s mine [not Varane’s] and I dedicate it to my grandfather who is no longer with us today.”

The Gabon hitman had promised his grandfather that he would one day play for Real Madrid.

"My childhood dream? To play at Real Madrid," he told L'Equipe a few months ago.

"In 2014, before he died, I promised my grandfather who was from Avila, 110 kilometers from Madrid, that I would play there. It will be complicated, but it sits in a corner of my head.

"When I was a kid, I watched Hugo Sanchez videos. The backflip I sometimes do when I score is actually an homage to him.

"Real Madrid, or another great spanish club, would also be a great gift to my mother."
