Ancelotti: I gave Hertha Berlin fan the finger because I was spat at

The Bayern Munich coach lost his cool after his side's dramatic late equaliser on Saturday

Carlo Ancelotti lost his cool on Saturday as Bayern Munich rescued a point with a late goal against Hertha Berlin from Robert Lewandowski.

It led to the former Real Madrid coach sticking his middle finger up at one of the home team's fans. He later said he did so because he had been spat at by said fan.

The Italian admitted that his actions were wrong and apologised, but he could still face punishment from the German Football Association for his gesture.

"Yes, I made that gesture, because I was spat on," Ancelotti said after the game.

Lewandowski's goal came after six minutes of stoppages and Hertha manager Pal Dardai feels only Bayern would have been allowed so long to find an equaliser.

"Unfortunately there was so much stoppage time," he said after the match. "That is the Bayern bonus.

"It's not a cup game, we do not play for 120 minutes. Sorry, everyone can be offended -- after five minutes the whistle should be blown."

Hertha fans and players alike were angered, which led to the rising tensions and set the context for Ancelotti's gesture.
