Barça have increased Ruiz's release clause to 100 million euros

FC Barcelona have announced that an agreement has been reached for young striker Abel Ruiz to extend his stay with the club until 2021, with the option for an additional two years.

Ruiz will now have a release clause of 100 million euros and confirmation of the deal confirms what has been an open secret for a number of weeks now.

The Spain youth international joined Barça in 2012 from Valencia and is one of the stars of the club's academy: strong, technically good and a goal scorer.

There was no shortage of interest in the teenager but he decided to accept the offer on the table from the Catalan club.

Ruiz, 18, has always shown a desire to continue at Camp Nou, despute seeing teammates, such as Sergio Gomez (Borussia Dortmund), look for futures away from the club.

Others to leave have included Jordi Mboula (Monaco) and Adria Bernabe (Manchester City) but Barcelona have made moves to stop others following by offering new deals with new clauses.

Ruiz is the latest to renew and he follows Inaki Pena, Chumi, Riqui Puig and Carles Perez in doing so as Barça B prepare for the new season after relegation to Spain's third tier.
