"You could hear a pin drop" as Luis Enrique told Barça players he was off
The coach told his players after the Sporting game and most chose not to speak to the press
Complete surprise in the Barcelona dressing room. After an easy win against Sporting Gijon, Luis Enrique told his players he was leaving at the end of the season.
While the manager explained his reasons to the players -- which were exactly the same as he later retold in a press conference -- "you could hear a pin drop" one person who witnessed the speech told SPORT.
The entire dressing room received the news in a state of shock, which is why they decided not to speak to the media (with the excpetion of Rakitic) and even this morning they have not made reference to it on social media, which is curious given some of the players' usage of social media.
Barça's strategy was to keep a lid on the news and now have it leaked. President Josep Maria Bartomeu, who had learned of Luis Enrique's decision a few days ago, took advantage of the moment to tell the board before the press conference.
Minutes later, the Barça coach made the announcement to the media.
