Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka is good enough to play for FC Barcelona, according to the Catalan club's former captain Xavi Hernandez. 

"I've seen him play and I think he's a good player. Without doubt, he could play for any team the world. He would fit in well [at Barça]," Xavi said in comments to German agency SID. 

The current Al-Sadd midfielder explained that "Goretzka is a young player .Germany always have good footballers and he's one of them." 

Goretzka is out of contract at Schalke on June 30 and various clubs are interested in signing him. Barça and Bayern are among those who have followed him and are best placed to sign him, according to the German press.

In fact, Barça have been in contact with the German player's agent, according to SportBild. Ariedo Bradia, the club's international scouting director, has seen him live this season. 

Among the other clubs chasing the midfielder are Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus. Goretzka does not seem keen on extending his terms with the Bundesliga club, who have made it clear they will not sell in January and will risk losing him for free in the summer.
