What Barcelona think about Man City's supposed offer for Rakitic

Luis Enrique and Jordi Mestre have spoken about the Premier League interest in the player

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic became one of the protagonists on Sunday despite not being involved in his side's draw with Villarreal in La Liga.

The supposed offer from Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for the midfielder, according to reports in Croatia, has forced Barça representatives to clear up the matter.

Vice president Jordi Mestre said: “If we had to acknowledge everything that’s published, we’d go crazy. We are negotiating Rakitic’s contract renewal. We’re delighted with him, as a player and a person. His renovation remains on track."

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique, Barça's manager said that "it's my job to choose squads and to pick teams" when asked about leaving the Croatian out of the squad this weekend.

On the links with City, he added: "His absence has nothing to do with [those rumours]. What comes out in the media, whether in Croatia, Spain or wherever, is not even 25 percent reliable."
