It wasn't just a bottle which Valencia fans threw at Barcelona's players

A bottle of water was included in the referee's report, but several items went unnoticed

A plastic bottle with water inside, various lighters… and even an acorn. All objects thrown from the Mestalla stands when Lionel Messi scored the penalty which gave Barcelona a 3-2 stoppage time win over Valencia on Saturday. The Argentine, as is normal, celebrated with his teammates when the objects rained down.

In referee Undiano Mallenco’s report, he only mentioned the bottle of water which hit Neymar, but he didn’t say anything about the other objects, equally as dangerous and thrown with force from a short distance away.

Our colleague Gerard Romero, who works with SPORT and commentated on the game from Mestalla for Cadena SER, published a tweet featuring a photo of all the objects which came from the stands at the weekend.

In the picture, you can see compiled a number of the objects which were launched at the FC Barcelona players. In addition to the now infamous water bottle, there are also three lighters, a screw and an acorn.

And that was not all that was thrown at Mestalla at the weekend. Remember that Paco Alcacer, who was the centre of the home fans' anger after swapping Valencia for Barcelona in the summer, was ‘welcomed’ when he went to sit on the bench with a bag of pipas thrown at him from the stands.

Interestingly, Jeremy Mathieu, who was behind Alcacer, returned the bag which had been thrown…
