Valverde's witty response to the suggestion of resting Messi

Lionel Messi has started the Ernesto Valverde era well. The Argentine is in spectacular form, scoring nine goals in five league games, his best start to a season as Barcelona player. 

Valverde, during this run, has not rested Messi, nor does he plan to, as he said when asked about the possibility of rotating the 30-year-old out of the team at Girona. 

"Rest? That moment has not arrived and I'm not thinking about it," said Valverde with a smile, before adding that "a player that scores four goals in a game doesn't usually miss the next one. That's never happened with me..."

On his role in Messi good form, he said all he does is "puts him on the pitch. The responsibility is his, he scores the goals. I don't pass him the ball..." 

To another Messi question, Valverde said: “Leo’s numbers show that he’s in top form and we want that to keep that going. He’s decisive. We are seeing something unique, what he does every week… he’s done things people think no one can do and we want him to keep going.”
