Valverde: To my knowledge, Barça could not haved signed Mbappe

The coach has not ruled out making signings in January
Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde was asked if the club had the chance to sign Kylian Mbappe in the summer, the French striker who ended up leaving Monaco for Paris Saint-Germain.
"I don’t know…" he said. "I don’t know what to say to you. There’s always talk about a lot of players. To my knowledge, we couldn’t have signed him. But I don’t know, no idea… I guess not because he’s not here."
It had been claimed by agent Josep Maria Minguella that Mbappe had wanted to join Neymar this summer after Neymar left, but that the club didn't take up the chance to sign him for 150 million euros.
Meanwhile, Barça are expected to return to the transfer market in January, with Philippe Coutinho their top target, although other options include Julian Brandt (Leverkusen) and Max Meyer (Schalke 04).
"Barca are always conscious of improving the team, if they can," Valverde said when asked about signings. "But at the same time, I am here with the idea of getting the best out of the players I have. My idea's to work with the players. There's still two months until January."
