André Gomes has been passed fit but has not been included in the 18 man squad

Arda Turan is the most notable absence from the squad selected to play Real Madrid

First official game of the season and Ernesto Valverde's first squad. The Barça manager is taking charge of his first game tonight in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid and has named 18 players in his first squad, with Rafinha and Vermaelen not included due to injury.

André Gomes has been left out despite being passed fit after his recent injuries but Valverde has decided not to include him. Arda Turan, Marlon, Samper, Munir and Douglas have also been left out by Valverde.

The full squad is: Ter Stegen, Cillessen, Nélson Semedo, Piqué, Rakitic, Sergio, Denis Suárez, Andrés Iniesta, Suárez, Messi, Mascherano, Deulofeu, Paco Alcácer, Jordi Alba, Digne, Sergi Roberto, Aleix Vidal and Umtiti.

There are therefore no surprises in Valverde’s first squad, and no big surprises are expected when he names the team either. Aleix Vidal at right back and Gerard Deulofeu on the left wing, replacing Neymar, could be the two changes from Luis Enrique’s first choice eleven.
