"I'd never rule out Suárez"

Uruguay and Argentina meet on Thursday

The Uruguay national team physio Alberto Pan has not ruled out the possibility of Luis Suárez, who has an injured right knee, could play on Thursday against Argentina in the World Cup Qualifiers.

“I’d never rule out Suárez,” Pan said in a press conference. The doctor said that Suárez had been working on muscle-building and physiotherapy but that at the end of the training he joined in with his teammates and his knee did not react.

“We still haven’t done the post-training assessment. Based on what we see, we’ll plan tomorrow’s work. If he can manage to work with the group and full activity, if he trains normally and with no reaction at all, it’s a big step towards being fully reintegrated and being OK,” Pan explained.

The doctor said there was no request from Barcelona for the forward not to play and that he would share all his observations with Barça. “The examinations done by Barça were very complete. Now we have to monitor him to evaluate what he can tolerate,” Pan said.

Suárez injured his knee in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid on 16 August and was expected to be out for four months.
