The two best football teams miss out on Champions League final

The elimination of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich was met with euphoria among Madridismo. In Madrid and in the cavern they celebrated the KO of the German team like a title. And not, exactly, for the joy of Atletico Madrid reaching the final. But, simply, for the satisfaction they feel at seeing Guardiola fail for the third season running to win the Champions League with the Bavarian side.

It’s because Guardiola’s Barça did a lot of damage to Madrid, Madridismo and the media cavern. Those three consecutive league titles, those two Champions Leagues, that 2-6 at the Bernabeu, that 5-0 at Camp Nou, those six titles in one year, the hegemony in Spain, in Europe and in the world… The overwhelming superiority exhibited by the best team in history tormented all the Merengues and each Pep defeat tastes like revenge. Even if it comes from a third party.

Double happiness for Madridismo. Because Guardiola’s Bayern won’t be in the Champions League final. Nor will Luis Enrique’s Barcelona. The title will be played between Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and the winner of Wednesday’s clash between Real Madrid and Manchester City. The two teams who practice the best football on the plantet couldn’t make the final of the world’s most prestigious tournament. Football, as they say, is like that.
