Thomas Vermaelen travels to Italy to complete Roma loan move

Thomas Vermaelen's loan move from Barcelona to Roma will be made official in the coming hours.

The agreement between the two clubs is complete and the Belgian now only needs to undergo his medical in the Italian capital. On Sunday morning, Barça reported that Vermaelen had travelled to Rome with the permission of the club.

A purchase option clause has been inserted into the former Arsenal defender's deal for the Giallorossi, while this season Roma will also cover the 30-year-old's wages.

After two seasons that brought just 21 appearances at the Camp Nou, Vermaelen - who cost 19 million euros - was unable to recover from his various injury problems during his time with the Blaugrana and has fell further down the pecking order with the arrivals of Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne this summer.
