Thomas Vermaelen: I'm not expecting to start in the Spanish Super Cup

Thomas Vermaelen is conscious that being out injured for a year and a half, almost, without playing football, will affect his chances of starting the season as one of Barcelona's centre-backs. "I'm not expecting to start in the Spanish Super Cup. I have to be realistic," he said.

Vermaelen acknowledged that last year was "the worst of my career" and it's "very hard to arrive at a new club and not be able to play with your team-mates".

Gerard Pique has become a very important person for Vermaelen. "He's the player I'm closest to on the pitch and he usually talks to me more."

However, of Luis Enrique he said: "Luis Enrique is a conversationalist, but I can't say he's given me any advice in particular. He is a person that speaks very clearly."

Regarding his injury, he said that "Now I'm fine" and added: "My goal is keep preparing and get a rhythm."

On Pedro's future he said: "He can play at the team he wants to because he's a great forward, but I hope he stays at Barcelona."

Vermaelen also praised Mourinho, saying: "Everybody knows him, he prepares well for games, up to the friendlies. Tactically he's very good. I know there was some controversy with him in the dressing room."
