The truth about Barcelona star Lionel Messi's latest groin injury

Lionel Messi has suffered another injury blow. The Argentine star injured his groin at the top of his right leg in Barcelona's draw with Atletico Madrid and will be out for three weeks, missing the games against Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo in LaLiga and Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League. It provokes the question what is happening with Messi's groin? Is it related to the problem he had at the top of his left leg?

The answer is yes. That pain in his left leg obliged the 29-year-old not to force it too much. For that reason, he had to re-adapt his movements. That's to say, he was putting more weight on the right side of his body. It should not be called a relapse, but it is a side effect.

What is the plan for the coming days? The recovery plan for now consists of a first week of complete rest and then 10 days of rehabilitation work and seeing the physiotherapist before returning to training. It's not ruled out that Marcelo d'Andrea, his most trusted physio, comes to Barcelona to follow his evolution closely. This process will mean Messi does not return to Argentina during the October international break, given it's impossible he can recover from such a muscle injury so quickly. In addition, Leo's aim now is to cure his groin properly and ensure this doesn't become a regular problem in the future.
