The three clubs that earn more for their shirt sponsor than Barça

FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday that they had come to an agreement with Qatar Airways, to extend their sponsorship deal for a further season.

The club improved the terms of the contract with the Qatari airline, and will now receive 35 million euros.

Despite the Catalan club having been in possession of a more lucrative offer months earlier from the same company, the new deal puts Barça in fourth position in the list of highest earners among football clubs, for the sponsorship rights to their first team shirt.

According to the ranking published this Wednesday by 'El Periodico' newspaper, the club which gets the best economic performance from their shirt sponsor, is Manchester United.

They receive an income of 71 million euros per season from automobile manufacturer 'Chevrolet'.

However, this figure is not fully accurate as it includes all the sporting bonuses stipulated in the contract, and the club has not been meeting expectations in that regard in recent years.

In second place in the list is Chelsea, who receive 55 million euros from tyre manufacturer 'Yokohama Tyres'.

In third position come Arsenal, whose alliance with 'Fly Emirates' is worth 40 million euros per season.

This is the top ten for football club shirt sponsorship:

1.   Manchester United: 71 million euros (Chevrolet)

2.   Chelsea: 55 million (Yokohama Tyres)

3.   Arsenal: 40 million (Fly Emirates)

4.   FC Barcelona: 36 million (Qatar Airways)

5.   Bayern Múnich: 33 million (Telekom)

6.   Real Madrid: 32 million (Fly Emirates)

7.   PSG: 28 million (Fly Emirates)

8.   Manchester City : 27 million (Etihad Airways)

9.   Liverpool: 27 million (Standard Chartered)

10. Tottenham: 21 million (AIA)
