The three centre backs Barça are still pursuing

Barcelona continue to look for more defenders. After the arrival of Jeremy Mathieu, they will now look for a second centre back and casting for the role appears to be closed.

Marqhinhos (PSG), Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) and Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal) are the chosen players, although it is the Brazilian, Marquinhos, who remains the preferred choice within the club.

However, Paris Saint-Germain do not seem to be ready to sell the 20-year-old, despite having David Luiz and Thiago Silva as their first choice partnership.

But the player, who would be the most expensive option at €42million, has made it clear he would like to move to Barça and has already reached an agreement with the Catalans.

Meanwhile, Vertonghen has decided to leave Tottenham, even though he has two years remaining on his contract.

Barça are one of the clubs interents in the Belgian. In fact, in England there have been reports the Blaugrana would pay up to €22million to ensure the signing.

The player's agent, Mustapha Nakhli, refused to speak to the Belgian newspaper 'Het Nieruswsblad' regarding Barça's interest.

"There are a lot of clubs interested in Jan," Nakhli explained. "I cannot confirm or deny if Barcelona are one of them."

Finally, Vermaelen, has already been a Barça target: In 2012 he was sounded out as a possible addition and has remained highly rated within the club since.

Signing Vermaelen, who is also Belgian, would be beneficial to Marquinhos is an economic sense, as he would cost significantly less than the PSG defender - possible even less than the €20million paid for Jeremy Mathieu.
