Barcelona have much worse results when Gomes starts, compared to when he doesn't

Valdano claims the player looks like he is hiding on the pitch

The player who claimed he was a mix of Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta has got off on a bad footing at FC Barcelona.

Andre Gomes has played in 20 games and has not produced a goal or an assist. His role is being put under the microscope. "Andre Gomes is going through a huge period of insecurity, There are times it seems he is hiding," said Jorge Valdano on El Transistor, a show on Onda Cero radio.

The Portuguese player is not living up to what was expected of him. There are some players who are going through good moments - Umtiti and his record of 16 league wins from 16 games. While Gomes has participated in 13 of the 14 games in which Barcelona have not won this season.

The team have five defeats and he started three of them, in one he came off the bench and in the other he did not feature. Barcelona have drawn eight games, five he started and three he came on as a sub. A terrible run.

Just looking at La Liga, Barcelona have won 58 per cent of the games in which he started and 73 per cent when he has not formed part of the XI. With Gomes 25 per cent are draws and without, 20 per cent. With him 16 per cent of games are losses and without him just 6.7 per cent.

He has been the fourth most used midfielder for Lucho in La Liga this season. Top is Busquets (1703 minutes), followed by Rakitic (1519), Arda (1154) and then Gomes (1106).  He is followed by Denis (1024), Rafinha (986) and Iniesta (702). In the Champions League Busquets has played the most (601) then Rakitic (446) and then Gomes (420). Followed by Iniesta (414), Rafinha (212), Arda (172) and Denis (90).
