The reason behind Gabriel Jesus not moving to Barça

Gabriel Jesus had wanted to play at Barça, but will now move to Manchester City.

The latest rough diamond of Brazilian football stars for a big club with great tradition in Palmeiras, but is advised by an agent with no experience of large international transactions, and in his first big deal, the representative has only concerned himself with the monetary windfall.

The agent Cristiano Simoes, and his former business partner Fabio Caran, were aware that they had a winning lottery ticket in Gabriel Jesus.

For his quality and projection, the Brasileirao's top marksman would usually be managed by one of large Brazilian agencies, accustomed to dealing with the complexities of transfers to the great European clubs.

When the sale of Gabriel Jesus began to resemble an auction, Barça's chances receeded greatly. Manchester City's larger wallets have tipped the scales in their favour, though both Real Madrid and PSG could also have benefitted from this type of transfer.

In this context, Barcelona simply can not compete.

Barça, like Juventus, Bayern Munich and even City, saw the player as an investment for the mid term future.

As he did not form part of the Catalan club's thinking for the planning of the forthcoming 2016/17 season, they thought they would have time to formulate their offer.

However, the 32 million euros arriving from the Etihad Stadium speeded up the transfer process and left Barça without any room for manoeuvre.

When the player's agents received the first large proposal, they became blinded and convinced Gabriel Jesus of the deal, without thinking in what would be the best sporting destination for the individual.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, were very wise and recommended the forward's representatives to grab the petrodollars being offered to them.
