The 'punishment' that Luis Enrique has given Arda Turan

Arda Turan is the only international player in the FC Barcelona squad that participated at Euro 2016 and who will have to return to pre-season training a week earlier.

The club announced that the Turkish player is to join up with the first team squad next Monday, July 25, and will fly to England with the group to take part in a training camp before the first friendly on July 30, against Celtic in Dublin.

The first reaction to the news is that of surprise, as it seemed that the midfielder would be part of the list of international players that are to link up with the team on August 1.

However, everything points to Luis Enrique asserting some control over Arda Turan, and the technical staff are expected to stay on top of the player to get the best out of him this season.

The objective is to help Arda to recover the form that saw him shine at Atletico Madrid.

In his first season at Camp Nou, some licence was afforded to him due to the FIFA sanction endured by the club, of not being able to register new players until nearly five months after his arrival.

Now Arda will have to show that he is a player of some value to Barça, and the club are aware that this is also the footballer's wish, having suffered a poor Euro 2016 with Turkey.
