The insult Barça's Neymar hurled at the referee to earn him a yellow card

The Brazilian got himself in trouble for words he directed at Slovenian official Damir Skomina

Barcelona forward Neymar was booked during the Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday (1-2) for insulting the referee: “Claro, claro, vete a tomar por culo", the Brazilian said to Damir Skomina, the Slovenian official ("Of course, of course, go fuck yourself").

It took place in stoppage time at the end of the game on the left wing. Neymar was protesting a decision which had been given in favour of the German side. It was then that he got angry and muttered the insult, according to the website ecodiario.es. It’s the same reaction Cristiano Ronaldo had when he was substituted against Las Palmas by Zinedine Zidane.

Skomina realised immediately that Neymar was not directing his words at him in a nice way and didn’t delay bringing out the yellow card for the 24-year-old. He was the third Barça player cautioned in the match after Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique, who were both booked for cynical fouls.

What’s true is that the relationship between Neymar and Skomina was filled with tension throughout the game, as could be seen by the conversations they regularly had, as well as the looks they exchanged. The Brazilian, who was fiercely marked throughout the 90 minutes, was the subject of numerous fouls, some of which weren’t given, thus annoying him.

Skomina, from the beginning, did not take to Neymar ending up on the ground, shouting or exaggerating the challenges from the Borussia defenders. In the end, he booked him. It was Neymar’s second caution of the season. His first came in the win against Leganes and was also for protesting.
